The Jr. Bellies began the second round of the BCJLA play-offs with strong performances over the week-end. On Saturday the Bellies traveled to Victoria and came back with a hard fought 10-8 victory. Veteran Bellie observers were trying to recall the last time the Bellies had won a play-off game in Victoria.
The Bellies were led in scoring by Curtis Dickson with 2 goals and 3 assists and TJ Cowx with 1 goal and 4 assists. Defensively the Bellies have welcomed the return of Captain Jarrett Toll and continue to receive exceptional support from Assistant Captain Brett Mydske.
Neil Tyacke in goal continued on his hot streak, facing 45 shots and only giving up a single goal in the crucial 3rd period.
Before a good crowd on Sunday afternoon at Queens Park Arena the Bellies went up 2 games to none with an impressive 8-4 victory. Tyacke was the star of the game, facing 41 shots and save for a single goal, shutting the door on the Rocks from the 9:18 mark of the 1st period. To top off an exceptional day, he added 3 assists with a number of superb passes to start fast breaks.
Offensively, the Bellies were led by Kevin Crowley’s 3 goals and Tyler Digby’s goal and 3 assists.
Victoria’s attempt to intimidate the Bellies clearly failed. Supposed Rock tough guy Rhys Jones spent much of the game hacking and wacking Curtis Dickson. For all his trouble he got tuned up by Travis Irving in a one sided fight in the 1st period and after the victory was assured, Dickson landed a number of telling blows in a good tilt in the last minute of the game.
Game 3 of this round goes on Saturday July 25th in Victoria. Game 4 if necessary will be back at Queens park Arena at 5:00pm on Sunday the 26th.
