So How Was Your Winter Eh?

Now although many define winter as that odd time between Junior Salmonbellies lacrosse seasons that does not mean that everyone has been idling away the days. That has certainly been the case for a number of current and recently graduated Jr. Bellies players.
So just to let you know what else has been going on besides dreaming of the 2010 Minto Cup here is a sample of what a few players have been up to.
Team captain Jarrett Toll added another C to his collection when he was named Captain of the Western Hockey League Tri- City Americans. The Americans finished 1st in their division and are in a hard fought battle with the Vancouver Giants in the play-offs. To say the least two captaincies and births in both the Memorial and Minto Cup would be at the top of Jarrett’s wish list.
Tyler Digby has been busy in the classroom and on both the football and lacrosse fields with NCAA Division 1 Robert Morris University in Pittsburgh. Daniel McQuade is currently second in scoring in his junior year with the NCAA Division 3 Whittier College Poets.
TJ Cowx is enjoying a productive field lacrosse season with Mars Hill College in North Carolina.
Last season’s Jr. Bellie MVP Kevin Crowley keeps on piling up the honours. Since he was selected 1st overall in the 2010 WLA draft Kevin is in the midst of another outstanding season with NCAA Division 1 Stony Brook University. He is one of the top scorers in Division 1 and is leading the team in scoring just ahead of former Bellies Jordan McBride and Kyle Belton.
Both Kevin and Jordan are on the recently announced short list for the NCAA Player of the Year Award.
2009 Bellie Curtis Dickson is enjoying another outstanding season with the NCAA Division 1 University of Delaware. Leading his team in scoring he has already been named Conference Player of the Week three times this season. Curtis ranks 2nd in career scoring amongst currently active Division 1 players. He was selected 3rd overall in the recent WLA Draft.
Bellies’ and the BC Junior League’s 2009 Defensive Player of the Year, Brett Mydske was selected 2nd overall in this winter’s WLA Draft. Taking his game to the professional level he has enjoyed an excellent rookie season with the National Lacrosse League’s Edmonton Rush.
As much fun as the winter and field lacrosse season is there is nothing better than the sweaty intensity of the Junior A season. Let the games begin!
