Manning Named Canadian Jr. Lacrosse Defender of the Year
NLLInsider.com has named Jr. Bellies captain Curtis Manning 2008 Canadian Junior Lacrosse Defender of the Year. In addition Curtis was named to the 1st All- Canadian Team. NLL Insider staff, coaches in the Junior loop as well as NLL scouts and managers were consulted in the selection process.
This national selection reverses the travesty of the narrower BCJLA All- Star selection process where Curtis was ridiculously relegated to the 2nd All-Star Team.
Curtis is a consensus 1st round selection in the upcoming 2009 WLA Draft.
After the Jr. Bellies were eliminated from the play-offs, Curtis was picked up by the Senior Salmonbellies for their successful WLA play-off run. Save for a couple of games missed due to an injury, Curtis has been a regular player in the Bellies line up and will be heading back East with the team for the Mann Cup finals.
Congratulations Curtis!

Saturday at Queens Park Arena the New Westminster Junior Salmonbellies defeated the Nanaimo Jr. Timbermen 11-3 to sweep their Round 1 BCJLA Play-off series.
The previous week-end the Bellies had taken 9-4 and 12-4 victories from the gritty Timbermen.
With all players desperately wanting to avoid another Sunday traveling to and from the Island, the Bellies jumped to a quick 5-0 lead before the 5 minute mark of the 1st period and never looked back. The Bellies’ enjoyed 7-0 and 8-3 period leads before shutting out the opposition 3-0 in the 3rd.
The team was led by Jordan McBride’s four goal performance and Kyle Belton’s hat- trick. Rookie Eric Lewthwaite chipped in two goals, with single markers going to Jarrett Toll and Kyle Buchanan.
As has been the case throughout the entire second half of the season, Craig “Peterborough” Robertson was stellar in net, stopping 33 Nanaimo shots and chipping in with an assist.
The play-offs have witnessed the strong return to the line-up of Graedon Cornfield. Cornfield, who had missed the entire second half of the season with an injury, currently leads all Jr. Bellies scorers with four goals and five assists and an impressive 44% shooting average.
Round Two of the Play-offs begin on Wednesday July 25 when the Bellies take on the Coquitlam Jr. Adanacs in Coquitlam. The series continues on July 31st at Queens Park Arena and back in Coquitlam on August 1st. If necessary, Games Four and Five will take place August 7th in New West and August 8th in Coquitlam.
